Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front

Illustration 3 for Manifesto – Berry

This is the last of the three collages I created in response to Wendell Berry’s poem “Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front.” Mr. Berry is a writer, farmer, and activist whose career is difficult to summarize – and it is still ongoing as he enters his 8th decade of life. I admit to being much more familiar with Mr. Berry’s essays than his poetry, but a recent article in the New York Times inspired me to read some of his poems. Collage and composition by me. This is the second collage I did for Wendell Berry’s poem “Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front.” The poem is so dense with imagery, it was difficult to choose lines to illustrate. But I decided to focus on one stanza and in particular the lines around the ones that Ms. MacWhinney featured in her New York Times piece about reaching out to her teenage daughter through poetry. Find the entire poem here and the NYT article here. Collage and composition by me. Scroll down to see the collage from yesterday or click here. Enjoy!
