Monday Meeting Doodles – Heart in my Hand

The month of May was a bit crazy over here in my life on the outside of Illustrated Poetry! I apologize to everyone who left me such awesome comments on my last post – I may be behind in responding to them, but know that they were read and much appreciated.

I used to feel bad that I doodled in meetings, but I’ve since read at least one article (like this one) that says that doodling is a method of concentration and synthesizing information. So I’m off the hook (a little).  I am often pleasantly surprised what my mind comes up with when it’s supposed to be listening to something else. A very nice scientific presentation on spores resulted in the doodle above!

    (Confession: I’ve always felt a slight twinge of doodler-envy for people who can make their scribblings look like more than, well… scribblings. 🙂 )

    1. Thank you, Alice! I’ve been doodling for as long as I can remember, but it is only recently that I have come to appreciate them at all. Sometimes I’ll find college class notes (from back in the olden days when we took notes on paper) and I’ll see my scribbles – they were definitely still scribbles in college!

    1. I find that doodling has been helpful to calm my mind in many situations – but especially during long meetings! You know it was a long meeting because of all that shading/cross hatching I was able to finish!

    1. Thank you, Tom! You too! How are you doing? I’m enjoying your Shakespeare Sundays! Anything that keeps us posting regularly is a good thing, but Shakespeare is especially good. Will you be going to see Hamlet at the Old Globe this summer?

  6. I was thinking about you the other day, going through my art and seeing the work you inspired. This is a great sketch, and you know my fondness for eyes and hands. I love all the cross-hatching.

I was thinking of you just the other day – I had found my photograph of the Hollywood reservoir that was the inspiration for one of my favorite pieces of yours (although I admit I’m a bit biased on that choice!). I am well – went through a period of intense science and come out the other end ready to make some art!
