Double Original Friday – Motto of the Grand Old Order of Molluscs and Chelonii

turtlesnailhaikuchallengeI wrote this haiku in response to a Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge (if you don’t know about these, I do recommend them) almost two years ago – and it is amazing to me that it’s been that long. But it is still one of my favorite haiku I’ve written, as it satisfies the science nerd inside of me, so I am reposting it! The challenge words way back then were “Snail” and “Turtle” and the first thing I thought of was that they both have shells, albeit made of very different materials. “Molluscs” and “Chelonii” are the taxonomic Orders of snails and turtles, respectively. Poem and photo (one from a long ago trip to Sequoia National Park) by me. Have a wonderful Friday!

    1. Thank you, Jilanne! For some reason, Ronovan’s haiku challenges bring out the hard core science/poet in me – two of the three times I’ve participated in his challenge, I’ve written science themed haikus. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Lillian! That is one of my favorite views as well, and it’s not very often I feel I capture it well in a picture, but this was one of those rare times!

  1. Been meaning to thank you: your postcard has been making me so happy! That picture of the cadets reading Howl (in formation, no less!) is delightful, and your wonderfully kind message has had me beaming quietly to myself since it arrived. ❤ thank you, friend!

    1. Alice, you are so welcome! I am glad that it arrived safe and sound – I really loved the picture, just the looks on those cadet’s faces as they try to apply some sort of military analysis to Howl. It is my pleasure – thank you again for your support, likes, and comments here. They mean a lot to me.

I am sorry it took so long for me to send, but I had myself figured right: I sent you that first postcard and it did indeed motivate me to go home and finish the art collage ones I had been making. So you should have another postcard very shortly!

    1. Yay! I’m so glad he made it safe and sound! (He was a bit tricky to package up for his international journey). Hopefully the book arrived as well, as it had to go in a separate package.

It is my pleasure, Matt. Always.

    1. Thank you, Haunani! I think it may have been my first (or possibly) second haiku challenge I participated in on Ronovan’s blog. They are a lot of fun!
